Have any of your busses ever broken down en-route?
We have run over 300 busses over seven years and unfortunately we have experienced one break down. It was a nightmare for everybody, especially our team, because we are committed to getting you to your destination in a safe, affordable, and expedient way.
Unfortunately breakdowns are an unavoidable reality in the transportation business. It doesn’t matter if you’re American Airlines, Bolt Bus, or ShuttleHome you are not immune to mechanical failure. The reason why we have such a great track record is because we only use the highest quality — ADA approved — busses and we only work with drivers with 5+ years experience driving a coach bus.
In the case of a break down we do everything in our power to make sure the problem is handled immediately.
Here’s what we did during our one and only breakdown: we broke down in a Walmart parking lot so all of our passengers were safe. We loaded the working busses up and sent them ahead. It was Sunday at 6pm on a holiday weekend and within 20 minutes we had another bus and driver on its way to pick up the students. We let all of the parents know about the breakdown on our twitter feed and while the bus was en-route we told the students to grab dinner. We then offered each passenger on the bus a $20 food voucher or $30 credit on future ShuttleHome trips.
Are you affiliated with any colleges?
ShuttleHome is a community project but we are not affiliated with any College or University in any way.
Does ShuttleHome own and operate the busses?
No, we leave that to the professionals. We only work with companies that are ABA certified and inspect their busses in compliance with federal and state standards. We go above and beyond and require we only work with drivers that have at least 5 years experience driving a motorcoach. Turns out all of the drivers love the students and we've been working with some of the same drivers since we were founded seven years ago. Ultimately this is a community solution to a community problem and the drivers are the momma and poppa bears making sure we all get home safe and sound.
